~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
രവി കണ്ണാടിയിൽ നോക്കി.
അയാൾ വല്ലാതെ ശോഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കണ്ണാടിയിലെ പ്രതിബിംബം മറ്റാരോ ആണെന്നു അയാൾക്ക് തോന്നി പോയി.
മെല്ലിച്ച ശരീരം, കവിളുകൾ ഒട്ടിയ, കണ്ണുകൾ പുറത്തേക്ക് തള്ളിയ വൈരൂപ്യം നിറഞ്ഞ മുഖം.
ഒരിക്കൽ സുന്ദരൻ ആണെന്നു സ്വയം വിശ്വശിച്ച താൻ ഇന്ന് ഒരു വിരൂപനായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് സ്വയം വിശ്വസിപ്പിക്കാൻ വിഷമിച്ചു.
കണ്ണാടിയിലെ രൂപം മനുഷ്യനിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു കുരങ്ങനിലേക്കുള്ള പരിണാമത്തിൻറെ ഏതോ ഘട്ടത്തിലാണെന്ന് അയാൾക്ക് തോന്നി. കണ്ണാടിയിലെ കുരങ്ങു മനുഷ്യൻ രവിയെ നോക്കി പല്ലിളിച്ചു, കോക്രി കാട്ടി, കരണം മറിഞ്ഞു. കാഴ്ച്ച ബംഗ്ലാവിൽ താൻ ഒരിക്കൽ കണ്ട രൂപം. അയാൾ കണ്ണാടിയിൽ നോക്കി ഒന്നു പല്ലിളിച്ചു. അതു കണ്ടു അയാളുടെ മുഖത്തു ചെറു ചിരിയുടെ ഒരു വര വില്ലു പോലെ തെളിഞ്ഞു.
 അയാളുടെ ഇടം കണ്ണിൽ നിന്നും രണ്ടു തുള്ളി കണ്ണുനീർ പൊടിഞ്ഞു. അവ ഭൂമിയിൽ ചിതറി മോക്ഷം നേടി.നിലം പതിഞ്ഞ തൻറെ തണ്ണീർ  തുള്ളികളോട് അയാൾക്ക് വെറുതേ അസൂയ തോന്നി. തൻറെ ശരീരവും ഇതു പോലെ മണ്ണിലലിഞ്ഞു ചേർന്നു ഇല്ലാതാകും. മോക്ഷം ലഭിക്കുന്നതു തന്റെ ആത്മാവിനായിരിക്കും. നശ്വരമായ ശരീരത്തിൽ നിന്നും.
മോക്ഷം ലഭിച്ച ആത്മാക്കൾ, പാമ്പു തോലുരിക്കുന്നത് പോലെ തൻറെ ശരീരത്തെ വിട്ടെറിഞ്ഞ് അവരുടെ ലോകത്തേക്കു പോകുന്നു. ശാപം കിട്ടിയ ആത്മാക്കൾക്ക് ഭൂമിയിൽ കിട്ടിയ ജയിലുകളാകും ശരീരങ്ങൾ. മോഹം, അതയാഗ്രഹം, വേദന, ദുര, പ്രണയം, കാമം അങ്ങനെ സകല വികാരവിചാരങ്ങൾക്കും അടിമയാണ് ശരീരം.
ഈ വികാരങ്ങളാൽ വിശന്നു വലഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന ശരീരത്തിനെ തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുത്താനുള്ള ആത്മാവിൻറെ നെട്ടോട്ടമാണ് നമ്മുടെയൊക്കെ  ജീവിതങ്ങൾ. തൻറെ ചിന്തയുടെ ദിശ മാറിയത് മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ അയാൾക്ക് പെട്ടെന്ന് സ്ഥലകാല ബോധം വന്നു.
ഇത്രയും നാളത്തെ തൻറെ ജീവിതം ...
എന്ത് ബാക്കി വെച്ചിട്ടാണ് താൻ ഇഹലോകവാസത്തോടു വിട പറയേണ്ടത് ?
ഈ കാലയളവിൽ അയാൾ തന്നെയല്ലാതെ മറ്റാരെയും സ്നേഹിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. ഒരു കൃമിയുടെത്തിനു സമാനമായ ജീവിതത്തിനു ഇതാ വിരാമമിടുന്നു.
തൻറെ അഭാവം ആരിലും ഒരു തരി പോലും ദുഖത്തിൻറെ കരിനിഴൽ വീഴ്ത്തില്ലെന്നു അയാൾക്ക്‌ ഉറപ്പായിരുന്നു.
തന്നെ സ്നേഹിച്ചവർ.... അവർ സ്നേഹിച്ചത് തന്റെ രൂപത്തിനെയോ .. അതോ തൻറെ ആത്മാവിനെയോ ?
തേടാതിരുന്ന ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്കെല്ലാം ഉത്തരങ്ങൾ അയാളുടെ മുന്നിൽ ഒന്നൊന്നായി തെളിഞ്ഞു. മരണത്തിൻറെ ക്ഷണം കാത്തു അയാൾ ജന്നൽ വഴി പുറത്തേക്ക് നോക്കി പ്രതീക്ഷയോടെ നിന്നു.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Bangla man

I didn't knew what to do on Xmas eve morning. My self esteem was dragged two feet below the ground. My mind was blank and I was upset for obvious reasons. I didn't felt like talking to anyone unless the listener had a solution. The problems were all self made and were nothing serious but for some unknown and wierd reasons I assumed myself to be the embodiment of sorrow.

I didnt had any intention to stay home. I took off for a small ride through the city for sight seeing and to find something that excites me (although I had no idea what I wanted and hey... thats life right ??  ;p).

I bought a small bottle of red wine and decided to take a random bus for my ride. The plan was to get off the bus when my bottle was empty. This is a random shit I do sometimes when my life lacks excitement. In such a ride I am very open to all sorts of people. I meet random people and initiate conversation and listen to them. The point is to learn something new. So this was the plan on Xmas day.

I bought my red wine and before drinking it, took a healthy vegetarian breakfast and proceeded to walk to the bus stop. I came across this Bangla guy who stopped me waving a piece of paper. I assumed he wanted to know the direction to some place of the which the address was written on the paper. He handed over the paper to me but it was some kind of prescription. I looked at him puzzled and this man started talking to me in gibberish. I interrupted and asked him to talk slowly so that I can understand. Well he was a construction worker and came Singapore only recently. He had an accident and needed medical attention for his left arm which I noticed he was holding a little bend. In no time I realized that he was begging and trust me, I am not very sensitive towards beggars probably because I am not a very good person. I have no respect towards people who are lazy. People should work and earn. Thats my theory.

I clearly knew that this young man was faking an injury and trying get money from me as he was wearing a full sleeve and I couldn't really see what was wrong with his arm.  I told him I didn't had any money with me and decided to walk away without wanting to waste any further of his energy to convince me. Then he pulled up his sleeves and showed me his injured arm.. There were stitches on it and was having some pus on it. I felt bad and even empathised for him. I asked him what I could do for him. He was telling me that he needed nearly 1500$ to settle his medical expense. That was a huge amount and I was not in a position to help anyone financially at that point. I couldnt simply walk away from him either. I was not that kind of a bad person afterall as I felt the helplessness he was going through. I was sure nobody would help him as I have seen Bangla people are not treated nicely as most people hold a prejudice against them.

I told him I couldnt help him financially as the amount was too big. He said any small amount would be helpful. I gave him whatever was left in my wallet which amounted close to 20 bucks. I gave it to him and said "I only have these". He took it with gratitude and thanked me. I was not sure if that money would be of any use to him. I felt really bad for myself but also felt that I was stupid to give away money to a stranger. I went my way.

This man kept bugging me all day. I wondered how he would get medical for his injury. How he would go back home safely and get some care? Does his parents or wife know about this? Is he stuck here? So many such thoughts started worrying me.

His boss or sponsor should have shown some humanity towards this young man. You cant treat people this way. This is wrong. I dont think these construction workers are given enough care by their bosses. They are transported on back of trucks. I feel bad when I see these. They are the most hard working people in Singapore to my knowledge. Even if its a hot day or rainy day, you can see them working. When Singapore was on Haze some time back, these workers were still working despite caring for their health when most companies gave off for their employees who were working indoors.

I realized that it was a christmas eve day and everyone were not happy. Neither was I. I also realized that my problems were so miniscule in comparison to the Bangla man and I was clinging on to that meaningless sorrow for nothing even though it soothened me like a drug.

A new religion

I might be a Hindu or christian or Muslim or a Buddhist, but whats the point of this differentiation anyway?

I would rather consider myself confused than believing in something or anything  blindly and take sides for it.

Let me be genuine.. There is no grudge here towards the terminology 'religion'. So what are we discussing here??

What should be the purpose of Religion and its divisions, if any??

Is the main purpose of any religion peaceful co existence of us, 'Humans' ? Is that purpose  fullfilled? If not then why is there violence in it's name? when there is violence and discrimination, then that divine purpose is failed as well.

Religion is now the trumpcard for the powerful corporates to bend rules and manipulate people (using media) into doing whatever they want them to do. People, including me are blindly willingly to follow anything in the name of religion or an ideology. Religion is like fire, because if you dont handle it with care, it could burn  down things literally.

Dont you think religion has gone too far from where it is supposed to be. Most religious fights happen in the name of freedom of religion. What we actually require is freedom of speech, not freedom of religion and that freedom should be respected between either parties regardless of their faith. If anyone is put on harms way in the name of any religion, then I would say "to hell with that religion and its ideologies".

No one has the right to impose his or her religious views on another person. 90% of the people like to argue about the greatness of his religion. Why cant they just respect the other person's religion as well instead of trying hard to convince him/her that he/she is blind and his/her god doesnt exist. I totally respect their beliefs and would love to learn more about their religions but they have to respect my beliefs as well. Most people are so serious about this kind of matter and sensitive too.

As I told, I do believe in God, but the only problem is which one to believe in. Being brought up as a Hindu, we are polytheists. Even if there was only one God for Hindus, did that god only created the Hindus???

I mean the people on other parts of the world!!! Are they created by another God? Like Christians by Yehowah and Muslims by Allah and so on...Are we that naive to buy that.. if there is a god there is only one ... that God could be our inner selves, inner beauty, the sun which keeps earth alive, the earth itself, all kinds of energies or maybe a superior alien race.... who knows !

If ever, I were to choose a religion, I would pick Gandhi as a religion and my holy book shall be his autobiography.

The rules shall be simple. Behold Truth & practice Ahimsa. You wouldn't require to visit churches or temples or mosques regularly and make prayers. You just need to live a non-violent, honest life, respect others culture and beliefs, help eachother etc. There wont be any idiotic debates between religious leaders, on whose belief or religion is the path to ultimate peace and self redemption. There won't be anymore pandemoniums created by some religious extremists and therefore no blood spilled in the name of it.

I contemplate that this itself would bring us some peace of mind and even eradicate the need for war atleast to some extend. The Idea is to live and let live. What do you think?

Moved in to our new home at Aashaamam, Kollam. The housewarming function went well yesterday, except I missed the whole party. As the title says it is "a place called home" to me as this reality out there is just stories told on phone and pictures send through email to me now. Cant wait to see my room. Missing everyone so badly and I am sure they miss me.
This is gonna add up my excitement sky high, the next time I fly to India. Let that happen soon ..Inshallah..

My first short story

Writing my first script… or short story…. I have been thinking of this for a long time …. Have been really lazy to write it down.. the only time I feel like writing is when I had something to study for an exam. I really get inspired during such critical times… my studies is not like normal people.. it is the last minute one… which means “now or never” kind of task. If I sat down to write then I will surely fail.

The first time in my life I decided to sit down and write the story that made me really excited. I don’t know if it is good or bad but when you have something in your head that you think is a potential short story, how long can you be lazy enough to not write it down. So I decided to write it as my conscience keep blaming me with constant abuses.

I am half way through. Trying to put it down in great detail. I believe it shouldn’t be rushed too much as the words should be pleasing and people should like it. So taking my time.
